Then again though, if this girl was Filipino/Indonesian/Pacific Islander, the male protagonist herr would have to be a fat old guy with a Hawaiian T-shirt. That way, it would be more accurate. The main problems about all of these speculations is that the girl here has a name that is deliberately ambiguous (Ruby), and her hair seems to be blonde which never occurs naturally in nations like mine. So basically, it's safe to say she could either be Filipino/Southeast Asian, or even a Polynesian. Who knows, maybe she just bleached her hair.

There's only two island nations south to Japan, though. It is Indonesia and my country, the Philippines. I've left out Taiwan here because the girl looks nothing like a Taiwanese one. In my opinion it's possible Ruby could be based on young girls in my nation. She's dark skinned and short, pretty much from what you'd expect for girls to look like in my nation. She's also not wearing a Hijab unlike an Indo girl outside. She could even be from one of the many island nations of Oceania i.e. Guam. She could be Hawaiian for all we know, but this is highly unlikely because it isn't located south to Japan.

Once again, it seems like I've stumbled upon another doujin with such an ambiguous title as "Southern Island." I've already explained something similar in another doujin, it goes like this. If we are to assume that the boy is definitely Japanese, then the dark skin girl here is possibly from of the island nations of Southeast Asia. Hence the vague "Southern Island" allusion.
