I like that the mother isn't just a mindless slut or brainless bimbo. What she is doing in the story is all properly thought out and done with a purpose. She is burning a strong sense of morality and principles into her son's mind at the cost of her own body + the babies being killed. Some commenters are asking why she doesn't just use birth control, and I think the answer is she's punishing herself. She feels guilty for doing this with her son. The "lesson" about responsibility is also about her taking responsibility for doing something so immoral.
