It might just be the translation or writings fault but Im pretty sure what the story was implying was that she hated her body due to her condition, proceeded to isolate herself because of it, this leads to people treating her as the blacksheep since shes the unsocial one and she ends up hating herself even more. I dont think they knew her condition outright and bullied her for it, they made her the scapegoat because she made herself the easy target. It makes sense when you think about it but the translation kinda throws you off. Also its probably even worse if she tried to socialize, tell people she has that condition and people being skeptic assholes.
