@Anisence IIRC Benedict and Violet both taken away to somewhat called island to trained to become mercenaies, while doing that they are told to use the drug which affect their memories a lot, when they escaped Benedict lost her and they got seperated, that will explains why they have good combat skill, correct me if I'm wrong somethings :)

There was a short novel given away to people in cinema, 4 versions, one of them was the story of violet if Dietfried hadn't given her to Gilbert. In this story , Violet was like an animal, but Dietfried cared about her and protected her. He asked her to do little tasks for him to "tame" her. One of those was to brush his hair, and braid it. I believe this story follows this idea.

@ciryk benedict and violet could be siblings. Benedict has a sister in the novel, that he forgot how she looked like. Violet doesn't know her parents so....it's a possible theory. not mine but the novels' translator seems to think they might be brother and sister.
