Copying this from Part 1 comments to possibly help confused people: I've been a bit confused on this one for over a year now in terms of the backstory relationships. Suzu is probably a "last minute" child between Wataru's mom and dad before they got divorced. His mom may not have even known she was pregnant at that time, and Wataru went to live with his dad hence he never found out about his mom being pregnant, plus it seems he has no relationship with her so that's why he doesn't know about his sister being born. The mom probably talked about Wataru to Suzu though since he's still her son, hence why she knew he was her brother from part 1.

How is she "fending for herself?" She said she loves her mom and has a good relationship with her stepdad. She just also REALLY loves her brother. It's not like she's abused and neglected living on the streets...
