One idea I had that I think would've been cool is if the entire thing took place inside of Tooru/Rio's head during the memory transfer, and that instead of dying, Rio and Tooru just merged into one person and all that was just a nightmare or battle between wills during the process. That way, no one dies, and both Rio and Tooth are still in there, albeit stuck in a dormant state. Just an idea.

Just my personal interpretation and opinion on it... thinking only of the mind in the body, I think it starts hetero and then his personality starts to blend with Rio's and becomes more female than male, making it yuri. The whole mental transcription idea probably comes under hypnosis, but the personality blending feels like it qualifies for the gender-bender tag. If you want wholesome shit, this author isn't for you. Look at other works by this artist, they all have some sort of dark twist and aren't wholesome at all.
