Guys, first of all, we gotta take the title in consideration "Dregs of Regret", the story ties itself to the title, it is obvious she liked her brother at one point, though she could never actually get to be with her brother(here is born her regret) she is visited by him and his son, and so opens a new opportunity, a kid who looks identical to her brother when he was young and is attracted to her, so she seizes the opportunity even though she knows she can't be with him for he has to go away with her brother, then enters in denial "it is unacceptable that I can't be with him" and in the end she has to say bye, though in love with the young figure of her brother(the shots protagonist) and still regretting what she could not have she sends them away with the perfect fitting line "see you later my darlings/beloved children", and since she wants to be with the shota she asks if they could not live together, which the answer is no since her brother is married, which makes her question it.
