This is fantasy and while some aspects of it hold true, gambling being able to destroy you life for example, it still doesn’t really feel “real”. But in Metamorphosis, the entire time you were reading it it felt like you were watching someone life fall apart, that you were reading a story someone that probably exists, albeit with a different name and face; and that why Metamorphosis had an impact and this doesn’t. There’s also the factor that we’re all probably jaded at this point and when we saw Metamorphosis we hadn’t gotten used to stuff like this.
