To quote the story she’s a skilled painter in her own right but the protagonist is on another level. Painting is clearly modeled after her but somehow a single person never saw the protagonist inside the other art studio painting or at least this painting as it progressed? The protagonist is a prominent prodigy who “has been featured on TV” the only explanation I can think for “her painting” is that she submitted it to that contest which wouldn’t make sense as then why would protagonist know it’s there? Honestly like Bohemian under me Metamorphosis was better because eventually it had a somewhat happy ending. Layers of White had a happier ending than this and it was morbidly depressing to see the guy a shell of himself (lot more fappable to)
