I sprang for the guy's fanbox. Here's MTL version of his explanation. @ResearcherFlame got it right. The heroine is "Ujikura Shion". The protagonist is "Horie Yuki". As the title of this work says, the surname is a combination of "kujira" (whale) and the sounds of male and female. Horie-kun's name is a bit twisted, "Whale → Horue → Horie". Next, about the title. "Whale Song" This is the key of this work. I think this is well-known, but it is a reference to the real "whale song". During mating season, whales (humpback whales) emit a "song"-like frequency that can only be heard by whales of their own species, and this is exactly what I used as a motif.

There is no specific time in the work, but the favorite song of the heroine, sung at the beginning, is a song that can only be heard by "someone who is in love with you". At this point, the heroine is in a state of ease, or rather a state of relief, thinking that the hero can hear this song → they are in love with each other! On the other hand, the hero does not know this. That is why the scene he sees in the courtyard during lunch break makes him go mad with jealousy. From my point of view.
