Considering how it looks like, it seems just being a little bit more paranoid and careful (which absolutely makes sense) and looking up before entering the room already would solve half of problems. Then a mage can easily deal with it with fire or ice magic. A regular person could gather some tools, prepare and, for example, take a lot of oil + fire combination. Slimes kinda suck as opponents if they can't ambush you. So, yeah.... I believe it would be cleared much faster. Considering they really know where it lies.
