on page 24 they likely wanted the word "pheromones", not hormones. pheromones are airborne chemicals that we pick up with our noses but we don't exactly smell them, they cause a different reaction in our body. real thing, its how ants tell each other where to go, we mostly just use it to get horny and fuck. i can see how the translation issue happened because theyre similar words and pheromones activate hormones in your body.
