So there wasn't any apocalypse. The girls were just delusional. They probably ran away together and locked themselves in one of their apartments. The noises coming from outside their door were likely the parents or cops looking for them. I bet this was some sort of allegory about not wanting to grow up into societal norms since they're lesbos and they didn't "want to become like them".
