Like say, let's assume that every 200 years 10-20 marines out of 1000 marines are turned into dreadnoughts. That would mean over the span of 10,000 years, the ultramarines operated ~500-1000 dreadnoughts. I haven't run the numbers for the great crusade and horus heresy era ultramarines, but their numbers then didn't even reach 500,000 marines as far as I know
