I've always been fascinated with this idea of reincarnation and death. The only inevitable truth is that we will all die. Mangas like [Ikigami] or [Three Days of Happiness] asks how people spend their last hours alive and what matters to them. Isekai with reincarnation trope always have protagonist correcting their past mistakes by living a better life. But does it have to be that way? We live, we die. A child run by a bus would simply have their thoughts ceased. An old man would simply feel his memories and energy slowly seep as it fades. Thats why isekai and buddhism is such a fictitious and unrealistic power fantasy I quite dislike, envisioning a second chance to live a better life but at the same time so ridiculous because often in these second lives stories the protagonist is easily overpowered and drawn to women. Almost as though the fault of his previous failure of a life was an external reason, the world he resides in rather than an internal fault. But I'm drawn to it.

It is Hamlet's palpable and disheartening irony of being by the grave of his lover without knowing she was even dead. It is Mushishi's [Fragrant Darkness] that relives the cyclical life of a powerless man, captive to his fate. It is a hyper realistic story of [About Time] that envisions a time traveller who can do anything yet chooses to stay in the confines of his mundane life. I love these kinds of realistic disappointments. That even though there is the fiction element of reincarnation that turns out to be false, at its core this is story of a girl who is unable to live long enough to be with her 'lover'. The aching sadness comes not from having nothing but that even when giving it your all, you still fail. That's why that moment in Steins;Gate was so tragic. Even with time travel, he's only reminded of how helpless he is. I love that they suffer. It's only how living should be. Facing tragedy and overcoming said obstacles.

Anana (7), Aya(8) and Akyuu(9) are different people in this doujin. This is kind of in line with my own headcanon that the Children of Miare only retains their memory, but not personality through their reincarnation. There is also the fact that Akyuu’s remark in Perfect Memento in Strict Sense alludes that the Children of Miare only retain memories of the Gensokyo Chronicle. I think it’s more accurate to assume that they retain any memory that’s related to the “History” of Gensokyo. Why am I lore dumping on this site

However, she was married off to someone else and gave him the false idea she could reincarnate and be able to love him in her second life. The second girl is actually her descendant and not her so it turns out she lied for his sake as a way to make it up to him for not keeping the promise of marriage and not being able to live a long life with him. This second girl was able to give him a child but died early as well as the family line has a very weak physique it seems. The second girl seems to have loved him and in a way, the man did as well but it was kinda screwed since it turned out the second girl only loved him due to that scroll left by the first girl. The third girl is his daughter and he reveals he read the scroll and understood the first girl wanted her descendants to love him in her place but he tells the third girl that she is not obligated to love him
