He wanted to tell the truth about her story so he collected all records about her but he died in the process of writing it and the people left behind burnt everything and effectively erased her from history to preserve the honor of the Stein family.

It's pretty much impossible for a royalty of a conquered nation to be let alive for long so that ending is kinda expected, how they execute it tho is just yeah radical. In the end looking at the panels it seems time just move on and the man who bought her statue after her country is conquered (again) is that guy who had conflict with her sister before, just now aged, he kept "her" around as a doll and then finally her body is put to rest after he also died by old age by being burned alongside his other possessions.
